I have over ten years experience in counselling couples and individuals experiencing difficulties with their relationships within a couple or family. I trained with a well known charitable organization specializing in relationship counselling. Many issues are related to difficulties from the past and unresolved family issues and my training enables me to help uncover these issues. All issues are handled in a safe and empathic, non judgemental and ethical environment.

I normally see clients for an initial assessment session, taking general details and giving clients an opportunity to outline their difficulties. If I think I can be of assistance to clients and they wish to commence counselling, ongoing sessions are arranged. I work mainly psychodynamically using many theoretical models including attachment theory for issues relating to childhood and family. I also work systemically particularly with family issues and use different appropriate models including Transgenerational and Solution Focused. Many clients have multiple issues including sexual issues and I will work appropriately using the most appropriate methods. Generally I recommend an initial block of six weekly sessions and review after four sessions.

I hold a Relate Certificate in Couple Counselling. I have ongoing continuing professional development training in both traditional and new developments in the therapy field. These include working with survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence and abuse, addictions, sexual difficulties, and working with couples with mental health issues. I have recently completed an Advanced Certificate in Systemic Practice with Families and Couples at the Institute of Family Therapy. I work privately as well as continuing my work as a Relate Couple Counsellor.

I will encourage clients to make positive changes to their lives and interactions with others to enable them to enrich their intimate relationships and make sense of difficulties they encounter. I feel that as long as changes are occurring I will encourage clients to continue with their sessions until they feel ready to leave. In cases of extreme financial hardship my fees can be reduced.
