Clinical Experience in Counselling

I specialise in individual counselling on a face to face basis. In addition I am an experienced couples counsellor, working with couples encountering relationship difficulties. As well as working in private practice, my experience includes working for a number of years as an associate counsellor for a local organisation. In addition I have worked in GP surgeries. I am also an associate counsellor for Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), giving short term therapy to people experiencing work related issues.

What to Expect during Counselling

You can expect a warm welcome when you contact me. As a counsellor, I won't tell you what to do, but will help you to make sense of - and hopefully resolve - whatever is troubling you. I can offer you a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to explore what brings you to counselling. Together we can think things through and consider any positive changes you'd like to make. Perhaps you are unsure about what you'd hope to achieve from therapy. You may just be acutely aware of feeling you need some help. It can be highly therapeutic to talk - and feel heard by - someone who will really listen.

Your first session will be an initial assessment. This will give an opportunity to take some background details to begin to build up a picture. We can agree how best to work together in therapy to best meet your individual needs. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

I am happy to work to a fixed number of sessions (focusing on a specific issue), or in an open ended longer term way.
