Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I trained and graduated from Kingston University in 1999 with a Diploma in Counselling. Since then I have been awarded Senior Accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Since graduating I worked as a senior counsellor at Croydon Alcohol Counselling Service for 10 years, assessing and working with clients presenting with alcohol related problems from the local area. I formed a private counselling practice in Shirley in 2000 where I see clients and student counsellors on a long and short term basis who present with a wide range of issues together. I have also worked with AXA-ICAS as a telephone counsellor for two years conducting psychological assessments and crisis intervention with employees of corporate companies and have worked privately for over 11 years with a major Employee Assistant Programme provider. As well as working in private practice in Croydon, I also work with a local agency where I see clients referred by the NHS.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

The beliefs of psychodynamic counselling is that we are shaped by events in our childhood. My style of working would focus on past events as well as relationships and issues in the present. A lot of emphasis would be on the therapeutic relationship which helps to highlight current relationship difficulties.

I operate an open ended policy so I would work with you until you reach a point where you feel you are able to see things from a different perspective rather than perhaps the troubled view that exists at the moment. Sessions take place on a weekly basis, at a mutually agreed time, either once or twice a week, dependent on need.

Primarily though, the most important aspect in therapy is the therapeutic relationship and I would focus a lot of attention on ensuring I understand your situation and the pace you feel comfortable working at.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Senior Accredited (MBACP Snr Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist since April 2001
  • Advanced Diploma Counselling - Kingston University (UK) 1999

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
