Clinical Experience in Psychotherapy

I have experience working in both the NHS as a counsellor in a large GP practice offering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and in the third sector as a volunteer integrative psychotherapist for a Hampshire based counselling charity. I previously worked as a telephone counsellor for Childline.

What to Expect during Psychotherapy

I work as a psychological therapist using an integrative model developed through six years of post graduate training in the three major approaches in psychology: behavioural, psychodynamic and humanistic.

This means I use a wide range of techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), based around the relationship between therapist and client, which I adapt based on what you present as your aims in coming to therapy. I have worked with clients on a long term basis or short term (minimum six weeks).

At the first meeting I will ask some basic questions about you and, importantly what you are hoping to gain from coming to therapy. This initial session, like all subsequent sessions, is 50 minutes long.

It is also an opportunity for me to answer any questions you may have about the process of therapy, and for you to find out whether this feels a safe and comfortable space to work together.

Assuming we decide to work together at that first meeting, we will then make a contract for a certain time period, e.g. six sessions, before reviewing our work against the aims set at the beginning.

Confidentiality remains paramount throughout the therapy process.
