I have worked with a wide range of clients with different presenting issues. How I Work
I am a psychotherapist because I believe that it is the most worthwhile way that I can use my particular skills. As a psychotherapist I can provide support in times of distress but more important than this, I can help people to make the changes that may be necessary for them to live a more fulfilled life. Psychotherapy is a serious commitment on the part of both therapist and client. In my work, I am influenced by Freud and the existential philosophers including Heidegger, Kierkegaard and Levinas. In practice, this means that I believe that people can choose how they live within existential limits. Psychotherapy is a powerful way to explore possibilities and choices.
Clinical Training in Psychotherapy
I trained at Regent’s College in London where I completed a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling. I was awarded a Distinction for this degree and for my dissertation which was on the subject of existential psychotherapy and ethics. This basic training was integrative with the most important components being psychoanalytic and existential. Having completed this, I studied for a further two years to gain an Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy. In addition to these qualifications I have a Certificate in Executive Coaching. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited and a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered psychotherapist, and a UK Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKRCP) Registered Independent Counsellor.Additional Information from Angela Buxton
I work full time as a private psychotherapist and, on request, work as a consultant and executive coach specialising in organisations within the financial sector and pharmaceutical industry. My first degree was in Chemistry and I have an MA from Oxford University. Before re-training as a psychotherapist, I worked for twenty years in management roles as an investment analyst and fund manager.
