Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hello. My name is Angela Buxton. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) and Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist and a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist - Existential Psychotherapist. I assist people to define problems and help them explore what to do next. My private Counselling and Psychotherapy consulting room is located in West End, London. I also practise in Barnes, London.

I have been a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist since June 2006 (Registered since June 2006) and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist since October 2007, so I have more than 6 years and 11 months of post-accreditation experience of working with clients. I work with Individuals, Couples and Families. I am highly experienced in providing Counselling and Psychotherapy to people from different backgrounds and cultures, and helping with the particular concerns they encounter. My expertise is in Unresolved Issues.

As well as being a Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice in West End, London, I have experience as a GP Surgery Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

After an initial assessment in West End, London, there is no obligation to continue if you do not wish to. You and I can take the opportunity to discuss the particular concerns for which you are considering Counselling or Psychotherapy. I will address any questions you may have. We can see how well we work together. You and I will then be able to decide if my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is appropriate for you.

The aim of my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is to attend to what brings you to therapy in a confidential and focused environment.

As a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) and Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist and UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist - Existential Psychotherapist, I am trained and experienced in using Existential Therapy, Family and Couple Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Phenomenological Therapy and Psychoanalytic Therapy to help people to address life problems.

Existential Therapy

In my work, I am influenced by Freud and the existential philosophers including Heidegger, Kierkegaard and Levinas. In practice, this means that I believe that people can choose how they live within existential limits. Existential psychotherapy is a powerful way to explore possibilities and choices. Generally 1 to 100 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Family and Couple Therapy

Couples and other combinations of family members sometimes become stuck in ways of relating that can be painful. By talking to the couple or family together, I aim to provide a neutral viewpoint that helps the family members to reflect upon their individual contributions to the relationship. Generally 1 to 50 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Integrative Therapy

An integrative therapist is influenced by the theories of two or more psychotherapeutic orientations. The principal components of my own approach are psychoanalytical and existential. I also have an understanding of humanistic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). All these disciplines influence me in my work. Generally 1 to 100 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Phenomenological Therapy

I work phenomenologically. This means that I will focus upon what is said by you and do not impose theoretical constructs. I try to avoid using jargon and I do not make diagnoses. I will view the issues you bring to therapy as problems in living rather than illnesses. Generally 1 to 100 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Psychoanalytic Therapy

The founder of psychotherapy was Sigmund Freud and he is a major influence upon my practice. The essential things that I take from Freud in my work are the central importance of childhood and the interpretation of dreams but I do not accept his deterministic theories. Generally 1 to 200 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
