Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am an experienced psychotherapist with over six years experience of delivering psychotherapy and counselling in private practice. In addition to providing psychotherapy to individuals I have provided psychotherapeutic services at a Criminal Justice Intervention Project and via an Employee Assisted Programme.
Professionally I come from an NHS background. I worked for 15 years delivering health promotion programmes, and training healthworkers. I specialised in HIV, sexual health and mental health.
I have collaborated in the production of a book, 'Living In a Hospice', and undertaken social research for a range of organisations including the National Patient Safety Agency, the Healthcare Commission, and the National Academy of Parenting Practitioners.
I have worked for the The Minster Centre, a psychotherapy training organisation providing clinical assessments and advising on counselling placements.
I have taught at the Karuna Institute and advise students on their academic work.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
If you are interested in having psychotherapy or counselling with me please contact me to arrange an initial meeting. This is an opportunity to meet face to face, for you to say what you are wanting to explore in therapy, and for me to assess your needs and situation. Its also an opportunity for us both to get a sense of whether we would like to work with each other, and there is no obligation to continue. If I feel I am not able to help I may suggest someone else who can. If you decide to work with me I suggest we have six sessions and then review and decide if you wish to continue after that.My work is informed by the wisdom and compassion of Buddhism and western approaches to psychology. You do not have to be a Buddhist to benefit from this therapy and I am happy to work with people of all faiths and none.
I help clients understand their suffering and how they relate to it; exploring how current behaviour, expectations and character strategies have been formed and shaped by the conditions of early life, and expressed and reflected in the unfolding therapeutic relationship.
As clients increase their capacity to compassionately be with their experience and 'self as process' (rather than 'self as thing'), they are able to live with greater confidence, happiness and freedom.

Additional Information
Now is the moment.
Whatever has been is gone.
Whatever will be does not yet exist.
'Don't waste your life for that which is going to be taken away. Trust life. If you trust, only then can you drop your knowledge, only then can you put your mind aside. And with trust something immense opens up. Then life is no longer ordinary life, it becomes full, overflowing.' From the Transcendental Game of Zen.
