Clinical Experience in Counselling

Welcome. I'm Diane. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Registered Counsellor. I help people to address the causes of problems, reduce symptoms, and live more fully. My private Counselling practice is based in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham.

I have been a BACP Registered Counsellor since March 2013 so I have over 2 months of post-registration experience of assisting clients. I also gained years of experience of working with clients in order to qualify. I work with Individuals, Couples, Families and Groups. I'm experienced in working with men, people from corporate backgrounds, people from different backgrounds and cultures and women, and helping with the particular difficulties they encounter. My specialist knowledge is about Anger Management, Depression, Dyslexia and Sexual Abuse.

In addition to being a Counsellor in private practice in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, I have experience as a Charity Counsellor.

What to Expect during Counselling

After an initial assessment in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. You and I can use the safe space to explore the current or unresolved past concerns for which you are considering Counselling. I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. We can see how well we work together. You and I will then be able to decide if my Counselling practice is right for you.

The aim of my Counselling practice is to concentrate on your concerns so you feel heard, respected and supported. To get the most from Counselling you will need to be able to be open to change.

As a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Registered Counsellor, I am trained and experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Educational Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Relational Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) to assist people to get through the difficulties they experience.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

If you have problems with your thoughts, emotions or behaviour, I would use CBT with the aim of helping you to understand how helpful or unhelpful thoughts affect you, and how to live your life feeling more in control. Generally 6 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Educational Therapy

Do you have a Learning Difficulty? Do you know your learning style? After exploring your difficulties we would use Educational Therapy to look at different ways of learning, which style suits you and what other help you may be able to get from other organisations. Generally 2 to 6 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic Therapy would concentrate on the problems you bring to Therapy, at a pace that suits you. I would be empathic, understanding, respectful, honest, challenging, show unconditional positive regard and compassion. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative Therapy would aim to help you with what ever you bring to Therapy. This means that I may work with your thoughts, behaviours, past issues, coping strategies whilst integrating different therapeutic approaches. Generally 6 to 12 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy would aim to help you to understand your past and how it may be affecting the choices you make today. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Relational Therapy

Are you having problems communicating effectively, or not feeling heard by your partner? Are you in conflict? I would use Relational Therapy to listen to how you are communicating and help you to express yourself more effectively. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Solution Focused Therapy (SFT)

I would work with you to help resolve your problems by exploring your options. Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) is about trying to find a way that suits you to resolve your issues. Generally 2 to 6 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Transactional Analysis (TA)

Transactional Analysis (TA): I would work with you by looking at your internal dialogue (your thought processes) how helpful or unhelpful they may be. TA is useful when dealing with relating to others. Generally 6 to 24 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.
