Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

I have been working in the counselling field for the past ten years. I started working with children who had suffered from abuse and neglect and went on to work with both children and families. My recent work has been with people who have addictions to drugs and alcohol. I have been working with addictions for the past eight years. Within my private counselling practice I work with people who have a variety of different issues.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

I work in an eclectic way, which means that I integrate different models of therapy into my practice. I believe that we all have individual needs, which cannot always be met with one model of working, so I will use whatever method I feel will work best for you. I do this by listening to why you have chosen to come for counselling and the unique issues you bring.

The most important thing is that you feel listened to and valued as this will enable trust to be built between us making the work we do together more effective.

I work a lot with the child part of the self as many issues can often be traced back to childhood. I use Psychodynamic therapy (Freud, Jung etc), art and objects and symbolism in this work where appropriate as this can be an effective way of connecting with the child part of yourself. However I also work in a practical way using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Therapy when working with short term issues. CBT can help you to change how you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour). These changes can help you to feel better. It focuses on the here and now problems and difficulties.

  • Diploma Integrative Counselling - Lambeth College London (UK) 2002
