Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I have worked as a therapist for over ten years. My current clinical experience includes;
Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice; working short and long term with adults, adolescents and couples.
Lecturer of Psychodynamic Counselling at Cambridge University.
Clinical Supervisor.
Executive Coach and Organisation Development Consultant; I work with leaders in business, academia and religious organisations.
Previous experience includes;
Psychotherapist at The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust; working with complex mental health issues with outpatients (four years); Trauma Counsellor at London Underground; University Counsellor at Greenwich Maritime; Summer School Counsellor in Crimea.
Supervision of Trainee Counsellors and Psychotherapists; Asian and African clergy; volunteers working with homeless people.
Prior to being a therapist I worked with children and adults in mainstream and special needs education.
I also offer clinical supervision and am one of Cambridge University's Approved Clinical Supervisers.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
I subscribe to the view that there is no one correct school of thought when it comes to therapy. If the only tool you have is a hammer then all problems begin to look like nails. I see each person as unique - this is reflected in my attitude, approach and practice.I trained as an Integrative Psychotherapist which means I am able to draw from, and think in terms of more than just one theoretical school. I mainly draw from Object Relations, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Person Centred and Transpersonal approaches.
I offer a supportive, honest and when necessary challenging presence. I am involved in the process; the relationship is the vehicle for the work and so I am not remote or aloof. There is much research demonstrating that the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is the key factor determining an affective outcome.
