Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am an integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. This means that I have studied various models of Counselling and Psychotherapy including Gestalt, Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and use whichever skills I feel are appropriate for each individual client or couple.
I began my training in 1999, gaining my RSA Counselling Certificate in 2000 and Diploma in 2002. In 2006 I was awarded a First Class Honors Degree from Southampton University and accreditation with my professional body The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). In 2010 I completed a Master's Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Thames Valley University and passed with Merit.
I have worked with several voluntary counselling agencies, an Employee Assistance Programme on their Counselling helpline, with local government and for the last 4 years, in private practice. I have a broad experience and see client's with a multitude of presenting issues.
I work with individuals and couples on either a short term (typically 6 sessions) or on a longer term basis, dependent upon presenting issues.
My practice is based in a professional, private office, located in the retail/business centre of Fareham.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
The initial consultation is an assessment session. This provides us an opportunity to explore the issues bringing you to therapy and for you to check out whether you are comfortable with the process.During the assessment session, we focus upon what you would like to achieve and agree a focus and time frame. In subsequent sessions, I regularly review to ensure clients are getting what they need from the process. I mostly work on a short term basis (up to 8 sessions) but do also see clients on a longer term basis, as required.
We usually meet on a weekly basis and I am happy to fix a day and time if this suits you, or if your weekly schedule if more chaotic, we can make appointments on a session by session basis.
