Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am a UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) Registered Psychotherapist, and a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
I have been providing counselling and psychotherapy as an independent practitioner in North Wiltshire during the past eleven years. I can offer help with general problems such as anxiety and depression, as well as specialised needs such as eating disorders and bereavement. I have had ten years' experience, first as a counsellor in a GP surgery and then as an independent therapist attached to a GP Practice.
I have a Masters degree in counselling from Bristol University, and carried out research into Binge Eating Disorder for my doctorate from Middlesex University and the Metanoia Institute in London.
What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy
My original training was in psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy, and consequently I am always interested in the way we are and who we are because of what has happened to us. I have also learnt to do brief therapy and so work either in a short-term, focused way, or in an open-ended way, depending on your need. This would be agreed during our assessment session so that you would always be clear about what to expect. My way of working may include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to help with negative thinking, and guided imagery for irrational problems such as obsessive compulsive disorder and painful memories.
Sand tray therapy is also an option if that is something you would like to try.
Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- Clinical Doctorate Psychotherapy - Metanoia Institute (MET) London with Middlesex University (UK) 2007
- British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist since 2000
I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
