Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hello. My name is Vicki Paterson. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I assist people to define problems and help them explore what to do next. My private Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is based in Cheltenham. I also practise in Lower Apperley, Gloucester.

I have been a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist since September 2004 so I have more than 8 years and 8 months of post-accreditation experience of working with clients. I work with Individuals, Couples, Families and Groups. I am highly experienced in providing Counselling and Psychotherapy to people from different backgrounds and cultures, and assisting with the particular challenges they encounter. My expertise is in Addictions, Anger, Depression and Workplace Issues and Work Relationship Problems.

As well as being a Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice in Cheltenham, I have experience as a Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), GP Surgery and NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

After an initial assessment in Cheltenham, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. As Client and Therapist, we can take the opportunity to consider the current challenges for which you are considering Counselling or Psychotherapy. I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. You and I will then be able to ascertain if my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is appropriate for you.

The aim of my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is to concentrate on your concerns so you feel heard, respected and supported, develop your insight of your thoughts and how they may increase or decrease your symptoms, develop your knowledge of causes of concerns so you discover what to change or accept and tailor therapy to you and your needs. To get the most from Counselling and Psychotherapy you will need to be able to be open to change, speak openly with me and reflect and work collaboratively.

As a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I am highly trained and experienced in using Brief Therapy, Couple Therapy, Family and Marital Therapy, Integrative Cognitive Therapy, Person Centred Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) to assist people to get through the difficulties they experience.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

  • BABCP Accredited Diploma Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy - University of Warwick (UK) 2005
  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist since September 2004

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
