Clinical Experience in Counselling and Psychotherapy

Hi. I'm Steve. I am a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I help people to address the causes of problems, reduce symptoms, and live more fully. My private Counselling and Psychotherapy consulting room is in Balham, London.

I have been a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist since August 2009 so I have more than 3 years and 9 months of post-accreditation experience of working with clients. I work with Individuals. I'm experienced in working with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and helping with the particular issues they encounter. My specialist knowledge is about Anxiety and Depression.

As well as being a Counsellor and Psychotherapist in private practice in Balham, London, I have experience as a University Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

What to Expect during Counselling and Psychotherapy

After an initial appointment in Balham, London, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. We can take the opportunity to clarify the current challenges for which you are considering Counselling or Psychotherapy. I will address any questions you may have. You can see how you feel working with me. You and I will then be able to decide if my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is right for you.

The aim of my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice is to develop your insight of your thoughts and how they may increase or decrease your symptoms. To get the most from Counselling and Psychotherapy you will need to be able to work collaboratively.

As a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I am highly trained and experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy and Integrative Therapy to help people to address life problems.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT aims to help you recognise your negative 'default' ways of thinking, and the feelings and behaviours that result from them, and to give you the tools to begin to do things differently. Generally 6 to 20 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Existential Therapy

The aim of Existential therapy is to get a really clear, non-judgemental understanding of how you experience life - your thoughts, feelings, assumptions, beliefs, and values - in order to resolve the problems or the dilemmas you are facing. Generally 12 to 150 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Integrative Therapy

Integrative Therapy takes ideas and approaches from a wide range of therapies in order to respond in the most flexible and appropriate way to what each person brings to therapy. Generally 12 to 150 sessions: depends on issue and other factors.

Clinical Qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy

  • British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited (MBACP Accred) Counsellor and Psychotherapist since August 2009
  • Post Graduate Diploma Existential Therapy

I am committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I abide by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
