    Therapy is confidential. A confidential therapeutic relationship helps a person trust their therapist with the problem they are experiencing. Confidentiality is only broken when someone is believed to be at risk of harm. A therapist listens to understand, provides professional insight, and assists a person to find their own answer that is right for them, within a non judgemental, consistent, and mutually respectful therapeutic relationship. For these reasons, people talk to a therapist rather than someone they know.
