They must adhere to approved Codes of Ethics and Practice and in the unlikely event of a complaint, be accountable to UKCP Complaints and Appeals Procedures". (UKCP).

The UKRC state that a UKRC Independent Registered Counsellor "has achieved accreditation through a recognized accrediting Organisation" such as "BACP". They also state: "Using a registered counsellor offers reassurance and a 'hallmark' of good practice. It ensures a support system in the event of misunderstanding within a counselling contract". (UKRC).
